Compose, reply, forward, send emails from Saleswah CRM

We added the compose function to the ability to see and respond to email from a contact in Saleswah. Now you can track all your business correspondence right from within the CRM- against each contact record.

Now, that is neat! Now you can truly get a full picture of the interaction history with a client. And react right from within the CRM.

So, the next screen that pops up is the compose screen for sending emails.

Not just that, if you clicked on any of the email messages, it will open and you can reply to or forward that mail like you do it from your email client.

The set up to achieve this is simple- all users can do it. Go to your email settings, and set up your email the right way.

Right now we are displaying only emails exchanged in the last 15 days with the contact against the contact record.

Should this be more? Should this be less? Should we simply display the last 15 emails rather than mails from 15 days?

What we learned about mail servers

We received a call from a client complaining that he is unable to send email through Saleswah. As you know, you can

– mail literature (any file in your hard disk- upload, select a contact to send to and send)

– send quotes

-send proposals (create and save HTML formatted templates for sending out for various sales situations)

– Send email campaigns.

He complained that inspite of following our advise to the T about how to set uo his SMTP server to work with Saleswah, he is unable to send emails. So we investigated.

Our invetigation led him to his email service provider and a simple “traceroute” command identified the actual provider. We went and checked the provider’s website and found the following policy:

… Internet e-mail sent, or caused to be sent, to or through the XXXX Network that makes use of or contains invalid or forged headers, invalid or non-existent domain names or other means of deceptive addressing will be deemed to be counterfeit. Any attempt to send or cause such counterfeit e-mail to be sent to or through the XXXX Network is unauthorized.¬†Any mail with recipient list exceeding 15 (fifteen) will be considered as bulk mail.

The other issue, we found was that their server does not allow SSL.

We worked with the client to get him to select another mail provider for outgoing mail- basically helped him set up an Amazon AWS account for email service.

Our experience is the best with Google Apps based or Gmail servers- they always work, no complaints ever. But, Google Apps is not free! Not any more.

If you have a similar issue with mail configuration- investigate. It might just be that your mail service provider is blocking SMTP relay from another server. In that case, change your outbound SMTP service provider or give us a call to help.
